Leo Fitzmaurice was born in Shropshire, England, in 1963 and now lives and works in Merseyside. He studied painting at Leicester Polytechnic, Liverpool Polytechnic, and an MA in Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2004 Fitzmaurice was invited by the British Council to take part in the Artist Links residency at Vitamin Creative Space, Guangzhou, China. Since then he has shown work at numerous galleries including: Seventeen Gallery, London; Tanya Leighton Galley, Berlin. Solo shows have be held at New Art Gallery Walsall and Firstsite, Colchester. In 2018 he made a new work Litter for Frieze Sculpture Park, London (the piece has now been re-sited at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park). He is currently installing a permanent public artwork at LFC’s Anfield Stadium - and working on a permanent commission for Thames Tideway to be sited on the Thames Pathway near Tower Bridge. Fitzmaurice’s work features in many collections including ; The Government Art Collection, The Arts Council Collection of England, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, St Barts and The Royal London Hospitals, Locus+ Archive, and numerous private collections including Modern Forms. In 2012 Fitzmaurice was the recipient of the 5th Northern Art Prize
